Philosophical Analysis
NYU Seminar in Mind and Language, Fall 2013

This class, co-taught with David Chalmers, is a Mind and Language seminar, in which we meet weekly to discuss work by visiting philosophers, read by attendees in advance. For more information, see the info sheet below.

The theme of the seminar is philosophical analysis: roughly, the use of philosophical methods to answer "What is X?" questions. The paradigmatic method of philosophical analysis is conceptual analysis by the method of cases, but relevant methods also include linguistic analysis, metaphysical analysis, experimentally informed analysis, and other methods for evaluating philosophical theories. The seminar will cover both defenses and critiques of various methods of analysis.
